Another Historic Racetrack Threatened
According to a Milwaukee newspaper, the historic Milwaukee Mile race track may be facing the same shortsightedness that the Music City Motorplex is facing.
Seems that they keep amending the contract to run the track to the detriment of taxpayers, and some elected officials are upset about that.
Instead of shutting the track down, why not renegotiate the contract? Or at least get rid of the people who are signing these bad contracts? This sounds similar to what the the State Fair Board is doing here: leasing the speedway for only $50,000 a year (way under what it’s been leased for in the past).
Reading about the history of the Milwaukee Mile, I was struck by the similarities to the Motorplex’s history. Both tracks hosted motorized auto racing in the early 1900’s and have hosted various other events through the years.
It’d be a shame to lose this track as well.
