Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Who are you?A. I’m just a resident of Davidson County and a taxpayer. I used to run the speedway’s web page.
Q. Will there be racing at the Fairgrounds in 2008?
A. As far as I know there will be. I believe the current lease runs through October of 2008, so I would assume so. You’ll have to contact the track or go to their web site to get the 2008 schedule.
Q. If they close the track, what will happen to the NASCAR and IRL races that run there?
A. Please don’t confuse the track at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds with the track in Gladeville, Tennesse, known as Nashville Superspeedway. Nashville Superspeedway is owned by Dover Motorsports and is a 1.33 mile concrete oval. Music City Motorplex is owned by the taxpayers of Nashville, and is a .596 mile high banked oval. The track at the Fairgrounds has been there 50 years.
Q. Who’s really behind this “save the track movement”?
A. I started this web site. I created the petition. No one put me up to this. When I heard about the “green” movement, I felt I had to do something. This is it.
Q. Is the current management of the track involved in this effort?
A. They’re not involved in this web site or the petition. I would assume that they’re doing their best to help save the track, whether or not their lease is renewed next year.
Q. Why don’t you have anything from [famous former Nashville driver] on the site?
A. Don’t know any well enough to call and get them involved. I would certainly hope that the Waltrips, Marlins, Bufords and others who’ve raced there would like to keep the track around.
Q. Other than signing the petition, what else can I do to help save this track?
A. You can attend one of the open houses in January that are being held by the consultant hired by the Fair Board, especially if you live near the track. If you live in Davidson County, you can show your support by displaying a decal on your vehicle.
